Pear - Creatively Mentoring Homeless Youth

From kitchen coordinator Lindsey Kennedy: After about a year of generous donations from our neighbors GP Kitchen located up the street from p:ear in the Pearl, various p:ear youth have tried and actually LIKED cooked beets and brussel sprouts (to name a few vegetables that are not typically available to the under-served populations).  It feels great to provide a healthy veggies to youth who’s diet typically consists of frozen prepared food.  Thank you GP Kitchen!

From Heidi Scheiblehner, GP Kitchen general manager: “We’ve been aware of the great work that P:ear does in Portland for many years and with the  opening of our second location in the Pearl District we were provided with a chance to do more than just admire their mission.  Each day we donate the food that we are unable to sell to p:ear to provide healthy, fresh food to the youth in their program.  In addition we are excited to have just hired our first p:ear employee – we look forward to providing many future graduates of the p:ear job training program with employment as they get back on their feet.”
