Circumference: Kim Hamblin and p:ear youth exhibit presented by Sterling Bank
p:ear is thrilled to bring the brilliant work of local artist, Kim Hamblin, into p:ear gallery to show alongside new works by p:ear youth artists. And thanks go out to Sterling Bank for their sponsorship of December’s exhibit!
Hamblin has been working and showing in Oregon for the last 10 years. While being inspired by the natural sciences – from anatomy to botany to zoology – her materials reference a more industrial era. Nails, paint and cut paper come together to create meticulous – even delicate – collages of muscles, root systems, branches, birds, landscapes, creating statements about her surroundings that span from haunting to humorous.
Hamblin has shown with p:ear youth before, and the youth responded enthusiastically to her work. They bring a raw perspective, using the mentoring influences of the adults in their lives to reflect and recreate the world in their art. Youth at p:ear use watercolors, paints, panels, and found objects.
Students from the Portland State University capstone, “Addressing the Food Gap at p:ear” will also be hosting a fundraising event as an addition to the First Thursday festivities at p:ear. There will be raffle prizes, food, educational opportunities and the launch of a zine made in our class featuring contributions from p:ear students!
