p:ear cyclocross program gets dirty!

Pear - Creatively Mentoring Homeless Youth

p:ear youth C. and L. raced the Rainer Cross Crusade race last weekend with cheering support from Executive Director Beth Burns and Transition Coordinator Nate Engkjer. For a view inside the action, check out this video from a few years ago at Rainier!  The p:ear team will be in action again next Sunday, October 21st at Portland International Raceway.

From Nate:  Cyclocross season has officially started at p:ear.   Three of our kids, all first timers, kicked things off at Alpenrose two weeks ago.  With one returning and another willing to give it a shot we returned to race Rainier.  The long and grueling course proved difficult, but not insurmountable as both of our young riders completed their first race ever in the beginner’s and men’s C races (on flat pedals no less!!)   OBRA, the Cross Crusade, Sellwood Cycle Repair and Andy Leritz and his brothers have been huge supporters of this endeavor; whether it be in race fees, course pre-rides, bike maintenance, or just their overall friendliness in helping our kids out.  We thank the community at large for their cheers and open arms.  We look forward to the next race at PIR.  Stop by the p:ear tent and say hi.
